Amazon Vega OS – A New Era for Fire TV

Amazon has officially launched Vega OS, a Linux-based operating system replacing Android-based Fire OS on Fire TV devices. What is Vega OS?

  • React Native Framework: Apps built on Android are not directly compatible; Vega OS requires adaptation to the React Native SDK.
  • Cloud App Program: For selected publishers, Amazon allows streaming Android apps to Vega OS via cloud for a limited period (covered for nine months by Amazon).
  • Multi-platform Strategy: Teams using hybrid approaches may leverage WebView support, but for optimal performance, native Vega apps are recommended.
