Seamless Vega OS Migration for Airtel Xstream, Enhancing TV App Performance by 40%

Airtel Xstream

Background

Airtel Xstream is one of India’s leading telecom and digital entertainment providers with over 5 million OTT subscribers and a strong bundled content strategy. The platform offers a wide catalog of live channels, originals, and premium content, driving high engagement through its ecosystem of connected devices.

As part of its connected TV expansion, the platform set out to bring its existing web-based streaming service to Amazon Vega OS, aiming for wider device reach and improved performance.

Problem Statement

Airtel Xstream had an existing React JS web TV app, and they wanted it available on Vega OS devices. Key issues slowing the project and risking user experience were:

  • TV remote navigation was unreliable due to web-centric focus patterns.
  • UI rendering had blocking paths and memory pressure, causing visible lag on TV.
  • The internal engineering team lacked Vega-OS experience and could not safely migrate or stabilise the app alone

Solutions

Logituit executed a focused Web Vega migration that reused as much of the existing UI and JavaScript business logic as possible while adding Vega-specific glue:

  • Migrated the core UI and business logic without rebuilding the whole app, preserving authentication, subscription logic, and key UI flows.
  • Implemented Vega-specific event handling and player glue code so ads, analytics, and DRM events fired correctly in the Vega runtime.
  • Refactored navigation into a TV-native focus tree and reworked blocking render flows (lazy loading, code-splitting, deferring non-critical tasks).
  • Delivered a targeted QA playbook for focus and navigation testing, including reproducible test cases, automated regression checks for focus, and device acceptance criteria.
  • Paired with the customer’s engineers through knowledge transfer sessions so they could own routine maintenance.

Business Impact

  • Airtel Xstream app launched on Vega OS without a full rewrite, accelerating time-to-market vs. a ground-up rebuild.
  • Navigation became predictable and TV-friendly; core screens reached an interactive state substantially faster in internal tests.
  • Ads and analytics began reporting correctly in the Vega runtime, preventing data loss and monetisation gaps.
  • Airtel Xstream retained Logituit for critical post-release stabilization and performance tuning.
