Problem Statement

Client was looking for a partner to develop gesture recognition algorithm for users to interact with their digital displays


Develop IP for hand detection and tracking using OpenCV APIs. Working with the customer closely to understand the use case and tune the solution to perform with high degree of accuracy. This involves

  • Training dataset with Haar based classifier
  • Classification of Hand movements to various gestures
  • Robust recognition on wide variety of Human hand categories
  • Tuning for varying environmental lighting conditions by applying relevant colorspace filters.
  • Background handling
  • Implemented using Bhattacharya distance and relevant statistical methods


The customer was delighted to get the product ready on time, with desired accuracy for a demonstration in major Electronics event.
